Mark 8:35 (NLT)
If you try to hang on to your life ,you will lose it .But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it.
I’ve been thinking about this verse for a bit now.
It’s spoken by Jesus after predicting his death and resurrection. Also after telling his disciples and the crowd in his presence what it means, what it costs, what it takes to follow him. In his speech he makes it clear there are no short cuts, no excuses, no detour, no options for any particular person or group. It is applicable to anyone that chooses to come after him.
So I know the question I must ask myself , you must ask yourself is “I’m I hanging on or giving up ? “ It applies to you whether you are starting to follow for the first time or you have been following for as long as you can remember. It’s a life long process and recurring cycle .
Only you can answer that for yourself. Good news is that he wants to help you give up whatever it is you need to , so it’s him you hang on to. Whatever you are hanging onto that keeps you from following , give it up to him. He will give you so much more in return. You are not alone in the journey either. You will find as you go after him and follow , that he is so worth it and so is the Good News for yourself and to give it to others.
